TNP & Soča Valley adventure

From Ljubljana, we drive to Kranjska Gora in the fresh morning. We will catch the reflection of the mountains in the morning light by the picturesque double artificial lake Jasna, which is decorated with a life-size bronze copy of the chamois ( the king of the mountains ). The lake was made for the needs of a small hydroelectric plant in a nearby canyon.

Now we enter the Triglav National Park.

On the way to the picturesque Vršič mountain pass, we stop at the Russian Chapel, which was built by Russian prisoners in memory of their comrades who died during the construction of the high mountain road.

The Vršič Pass played an important role in history, especially in WW1 when the road over the pass was widened for the needs of supplying the front. About 12,000 Russian prisoners of war participated in this work. They worked in all seasons in all conditions, even in winter. According to some sources, around 10,000 of them died.

From the top of the Vršič pass, we descend along a breathtaking winding road into the Valley Soča to one of the most beautiful mountain rivers in the world, the emerald green Soča river, and after visiting the memorial to Julius Kugy, the great alpinist and explorer of the Soča and Trenta Valleys, we stop for lunch at a local restaurant in Trenta.

We still have enough time for a short walk to the sheltered Bumpy Meadows by the large Glacial boulders. We will cross the Soča River via a typical suspension bridge.

In Bovec, we have a stop for pleasure rafting on the emerald river Soča or the adrenaline-pumping Zip Line in the Kanina mountain range, and after finishing, we have a sweet treat at the eco ice cream bar Janko and Metka on Bovške trg.

From Bovec, full of good vibes, we head over the Predel mountain pass and take one last look at the peaks of the Julian Alps. We will probably make our last stop at sunset at the glacial Rajbelj lake.

We end an unforgettable day full of experiences in the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana.
