Trip Description
From the Upper Sava Valley, passing the world-famous Kranjska Gora, where the Alpine Skiing World Cup takes place in winter, we find ourselves in an instant between the vertical walls of the Julian Alps.
We enter the Triglav National Park, the only National Park in Slovenia, which covers 4% of Slovenia's surface. Over the steep Vršič pass with unique views, which is an extremely popular challenge for road cyclists, we arrive in the wonderful Soča valley. We follow the course of the emerald river Soča to Bovec.
The small town of Bovec, which is very lively in the summer, offers us, in addition to adrenaline, exceptional cuisine, and here we will stop at a truly original connoisseur and chef on the main square.
From Bovec town we will continue our journey to the large lake Most na Soča, which was created when the Soča River was dammed for the needs of the Hydroelectric Power Plant.
From the lake, we turn into the narrow valley of the river Idrijca, which leads us to the mining town of Idrija, where we will descend into the depths of the mercury mine.
The mercury mine in Idrija is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Through an interesting guide, we will experience the underground and get to know the dangerous work that miners have done over the centuries to survive.
Before returning, we refresh ourselves with a traditional miners' festive lunch at a local inn.
We will finish our day full of experiences, the circuit around the Julian Alps, again in Ljubljana.
